On January 1, 2020, the United Kingdom began their exit from the European Union and completed the transition on December 31, 2020. During that transition all EU regulations such as REACH and CLP were to be followed as before. But February 2021 is here and what has changed?

First, UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will manage previous ECHA functions and be the lead in UK REACH. HSE will have the following duties:
- Evaluate applications for registrations.
- Coordinate the Candidate List of substances.
- Evaluate restrictions.
A new UK REACH-IT portal, “Comply with UK REACH”, was set to go live January 1, 2021. The UK Department from Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) will support the new portal which is utilizing the same platform as REACH-IT. (REACH-IT is the central IT system that supports Industry, Member State competent authorities and the European Chemicals Agency to securely submit, process and manage data and dossiers).
The UK has also created “MCL” (Mandatory Classification & Labelling) as their version of CLP. The only current change to the SDS is the ECC reference number stated at the top of the SDS which would need to now be a UK legislation reference. Until the ATP 17 at least (scheduled for October 2021), the rules for CLP vs MCL are the same. It is likely that MCL will break off at some point.

How can ProductVision help?
The ProductVision Regulatory Compliance (RC) Module integrates seamlessly with the ProductVision Formula Management (FM) Module to greatly simplify compliance with hazardous communication regulations. The RC Module automatically generates raw material and formula-driven Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and product labels, which meet or exceed reporting regulations worldwide, including the GHS (Global Harmonization System) regulations in the US, Europe (CLP) and elsewhere. It also tracks customer SDS mailings necessary for U.S. customers. Input of required resource information is simplified by using our integration to the Ariel RegAid and ChemADVISOR LoLi chemical property databases. Documents are produced in Adobe PDF format, greatly simplifying distribution both internally and externally (especially in combination with the ProductVision Regulatory Publishing Module).
The ProductVision® product development software is a product lifecycle management (PLM) system that manages all aspects of the product development process. Suitable for industries including paint & coatings, personal care and food & beverage, ProductVision’s comprehensive list of modules includes Formula Management, Regulatory, GHS, Project Management, Document Management, Ingredient Labelling, Guidelines & Restrictions, Sample Tracking, Testing and Workflow. We have your complete development process covered no matter what your industry.
